Consultant Clinical Scientist / Chemical Pathologist

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and forward-thinking Consultant Clinical Scientist/Chemical Pathologist to join the Biochemistry Department at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, on a permanent contract. The post will include scope to involved in the procurement of new equipment and the development of new services to benefit patients within the Tameside and Glossop locality. Working with modern equipment, including 2 x Beckman Coulter AU5812, 2 x Beckman Coulter DxI 800, 1 x Beckman Coulter DxI 9000, 2 x Tosoh G11 analysers, and a Sebia Hydrasys. 1. To offer clinical guidance and scientific advice and assistance to clinicians on theselection, performance and interpretation of clinically relevant tests in order to facilitate the diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and understanding of disease. 2. To offer consultant clinical expertise and advice to hospital clinicians, general practitioners and external users of the Clinical Biochemistry service. 3. The post holder will interpret highly complex clinical and pathological data and be responsible for the clinical authorisation of laboratory reports. 4. To be responsible for the creation, implementation and review of evidence basedclinical guidelines in conjunction with other consultant colleagues and clinical users. 5. To participate in ward rounds and clinical discussion meetings as required, giving advice on selection, availability and interpretation of biochemical tests. 6. To deputise for the Clinical Director for support services as required. 7. To provide support for the strategic direction and clinical leadership of the Clinical Biochemistry service within the context of patient centred care as identified by national priorities, established standards of practice and the needs of the Trust. 8. To contribute to the strategic planning of the Department of Blood Sciences and the Directorate of Laboratory Medicine.
