Anexciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated full or part timesubstantive Consultant Clinical Lead Dermatologist at Barnsley Hospital.

Youwill be joining a friendly supportive team of Consultants, Specialty Doctors,Junior Medical Staff, Allied Health Professionals and a Specialist Nursing Role as clinical lead will allow the successfulcandidate to work together with the Service Manager and Matron in shaping thefuture of Dermatology Service at Barnsley Hospital.

You will have sharedresponsibility for the operational performance, clinical quality and resourcemanagement of the service, providing leadership and management.

Main duties of the job

Beresponsible for the planning, delivery and improvement of clinical care inDermatology at Barnsley Hospital,

Liaisewith other Health Care Organisations, Social Services, General Practitionersand Voluntary Organisations as required

Contributeto the teaching of other grades of staff, both within and outside thedepartment, including medical staff and nurses.

Carryout medical teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required.

Participate in the formal appraisal ofjunior medical staff

Demonstrate continuing improvements tothe quality of service provided within the framework of the Trusts ClinicalGovernance arrangements.

Contributetowards the achievement of the Trust's corporate objective / strategic direction

Contributeto the management process

Beresponsible for maintaining an up-to-date service

Advisemedical, nursing, managerial and other colleagues on appropriate matters.

  • Willingness and ability to fulfil the key elements of the job description including the shift pattern required.

  • Possession of the clinical skills required to perform the job including acute medicine and general internal medicine.

  • Ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based Consultant

  • Ability to lead and develop the service.

  • Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual, multi-professional and team basis with all levels of staff.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, written and orally.

  • Ability to empathise and demonstrate probity.

  • Ability and evidence of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Qualifications

    Essential
  • MRCP or equivalent.

  • Full GMC registration, and on the specialist register in Dermatology with proven skills and up-to-date experience in acute medicine OR

  • Full GMC registration, and within 6 months of specialist registration in Dermatology due to completion of training or within 6 months of specialist registration in Dermatology with proven skills and up-to-date experience in acute medicine due to completion of training, or application via GMC CESR with the submission completed at time of interview in either case., Audit - Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit principles.

  • Research - Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate.

  • Management - Ability to work effectively and constructively with management.

  • Teaching - Evidence of effective teaching to medical students and doctors in training and to the multidisciplinary team.

  • Ability to present effectively to an audience using a variety of methods.

  • Fitness to Practice - Occupational health clearance and satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the DBS. Required status to work in UK


  • Desirable
  • Evidence of direct involvement in 2 specific medical audits in the last 18 months.

  • Evidence of involvement in a research project.

  • Evidence of formal management training.

  • Training and / or evidence in areas such as leadership, planning and change management.


  • Experience

    Essential

    Experience in the management of a broad Acute Medicine caseload.

    Desirable
  • Current ALS certificate or equivalent.

  • Experience in a specialist interest that will complement those of other staff.
