Full Job Description
The principal functions of this national expert public health role include: i) development and oversight of national surveillance and expert clinical and public health advice on the management of cases of vaccine preventable diseases and outbreaks (including advice on use of prophylactic immunoglobulins), ii) providing information and advice on the prevention and control of vaccine preventable diseases, iii) teaching and training and the development and conduct of relevant research. This is a highly specialist position the purpose of which is to provide senior level expert public health input into a wide range of national activities., o The post holder will provide expert clinical advice to health professionals on immunisation-related queries and the management of vaccine preventable diseases.o He/she will be responsible for the national surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases.o The post holder will be expected to develop research in areas consistent with the work programme of the Division,o The consultant will be expected to contribute to national policy on the control and prevention of infection. This may be discharged through supplying papers to the Joint Committee for Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) and other Department of Health committees, by developing and contributing to national guidance and guidelines relevant to the diagnosis control and prevention of vaccine preventable diseases and contributing to the development of broader CPH and UKHSA policy and strategy.o The post holder will contribute to training of medical, scientific and administrative staff and will be expected to lecture widely and will
be expected to contribute to the teaching commitments of the Division.o The person appointed will be expected to take part in 24 hour on-duty medical roster providing advice and assistance to consultants in communicable disease control and NHS health professionals. This is currently arranged as up to 1 in 5 weekdays within working hours and approximately 1 week in every 10 weeks during "out-of-hours".
