Full Job Description
Applications are invited for a full-time (10 Programmed Activities) Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist. This is a replacement post due to the current post holder retirement.
Applicants must be eligible for registration on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register, have Approved Clinician status and be approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act.
Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists is preferred, butequivalent qualifications and experience would be considered.Any Consultant who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time willbe eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed,modification to the job content will be discussed on a personal basis withthe Trust in consultation with Consultant colleagues.
Newly appointed Consultants will be offered mentoring which will bearranged by the Associate Medical Director and supported by the ClinicalDirector for the service.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work into Grampian (National Deaf Service) and the Mental Health service. The caseload will be up to 10 patients on Grampian ward and 10 within the Mental Health Service.The post-holder will travel to assess referrals to their ward. The post-holder will have caseloads within the national prison estates as part of the Deaf In-Reach service. Depending on the balance of referrals, this may also include assessment ofreferrals to the wider women's service.In the Mental Health Service the post-holder will work within an MDT and along side another consultant psychiatrist who will also have a caseload within the ward.
To manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical director and in accordance with the Trust's personnel policies and procedures. This may include assessing competences under the Modernising Medical Careers framework.
To ensure that junior medical staff working with the postholder operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant.
To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
To participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and service.
To attend and participate in the academic programme, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
