Full Job Description

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Consultant Gastroenterologist as part of departmental expansion and continued development of specialised services. The successful candidate will join a friendly and progressive team of Gastroenterologists and will be encouraged to develop a sub-speciality interest to complement the existing team and to support further development of the service., o A team of Specialist Nurses; 3 IBD nurses, 3 liver nurses, 3 alcohol nurses, 2 upper GI/HPB cancer nurses and 1 nutrition nurse.

o There are 4 Clinical Endoscopists - as well as OGD, Flexi sig and colonoscopy activity they also provide a trans nasal endoscopy service and have attended train the trainer courses and support endoscopy training of our Registrars. 1 Gastroenterology dietitian.

Trust, is a member of the Black country ICS and has close links with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

Walsall forms part of the Birmingham hepatitis C ODN and most patients are treated locally either from out-patients or in the community clinic., o Take responsibility for patients under your care.

o Provide a consultation service and advisory service to other clinical colleagues in other specialities within the Trust and Primary Care.

o Participate in the development of the gastroenterology service, treatment protocols and guidelines and the greater knowledge in the management of gastroenterology conditions.

o Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialities and participate in regular clinical meetings and other post graduate activities.

o Take responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee doctors within the speciality.

o Demonstrate a firm involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audit - including the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice.

o Ensure own practice is up to date; this includes responsibility for own Clinical Professional Development and Appraisal.

o Participate in the GI bleed OOH rota.

o Comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures.
