Full Job Description

The post will be based at Princess Royal University Hospital also with planed activity at the Denmark Hill site and the proposed Job plan up to 7 PA's in total is attached. This is subject to review within 3 months of the postholder commencing in post.

There is no oncall element in this role. All employees are expected to undertake work on any of the Trust's sites as required by the service. As a senior employee of the Trust, you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients. Integral to these responsibilities are the following:

The provision of a first-class clinical service

Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty

Sustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with King's College London / KHP

Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies

Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's service plans

Maintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Care Group or the Trust

We are seeking a part-time (7PA) substantive consultant to join the Neurology team at the PRUH site to contribute to developing the general neurology service; to help reduce waiting times for general neurology and movement disorder out-patients, The post holder will also be part of the Movement Disorder service based in Denmark Hill site. The post holder will support the in-patient services and support the clinical governance. There is also an opportunity to develop specialist services at the PRUH.

The PRUH opened in March 2003 and has 525 beds and. Services provided include maternity and special care baby unit, paediatrics, surgery, medicine, coronary care, cancer medicine, ICU and HDU, Accident & Emergency, a HASU and outpatient services. Additional secondary care services (clinics, operative procedures, rehabilitation) are provided at Orpington Hospital and the Beckenham Beacon, close by.

Neurology is part of the Department of Specialist Medicine within the recently revised Care Group Structure. It supports the inpatient services and provides general neurology and specialist outpatient services to the local community in Orpington, Kent - a residential and partially rural area in the south east part of outer London.

There are no in-patient neurology beds at the PRUH and patients requiring in-patient neurology care are transferred to Denmark Hill., King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK's largest and busiest teaching Trusts with a turnover of c£1 billion, 1.5 million patient contacts a year and more than 15,000 staff based across South East London.
