Full Job Description

The job plan is based upon 10 PA with potential to review and increase upon appointment.
The post will includes:
- Twice weekly full day Elective Hand surgery theatre lists (5DCC)
- Twice weekly Elective Hand surgery clinics (2DCC)
- 1.5 SPA and 1 admin session are provided with possibility to increase the SPAs dependent on additional roles undertaken
- 0.5 DCC are expected to be made up by working evening or weekend sessions on an adhoc basis to make the post up to 10PA per week over the year.
Consultants within the Trust are expected to complete job plan diaries when required to ensure appropriate remuneration.
Newly appointed consultant will be part of a structured 12-month mentorship programme led by a senior clinical consultant within the Hands team
The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital is seeking to recruit a Consultant Hand Surgeon into a Substantive post. This would be treating elective Hand conditions. At the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, the Consultant would join the Small Joints team which includes six other hand surgeons. The expectation would be that the post-holder would have the relevant skills and knowledge in the generality of elective hand surgery. There would however be support in the future to develop a super-specialist interest to compliment, or add to, the current areas of expertise in the unit. The department undertakes a comprehensive range of hand surgery with surgeons having specialist interests in spasticity, peripheral nerve and wrist pathologies. Paediatric patients are not treated in the trust.
There are currently 6 Hand surgeons, 2 of which work across ROH and UHB. this post however is solely based at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
The Hand surgeons that currently work and have an elective footprint at the Royal Orthopaedic hospital are:
Mr Mark Brewster, Mr Rajive Jose, Mr Mike Craigen, Mr Petros Mikalef, Professor Subodh Deshmukh and Miss Gemma Smith.
The individual appointed to the post will have completed orthopaedic or plastic surgical training and have completed or be undertaking a training Fellowship in Hand Surgery.
Flexible and less than full-time working can be accommodated.
