Full Job Description
This post will work within a team of consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive gynaecological pathology service in the Oxford University Hospitals, including performing or supervising cut ups, microscopy, or other diagnostic techniques, reporting cases, and supporting clinical meetings and case discussions., Strategic leadership for the systems pathology component of Laboratory Medicine Course for Year 4 Standard Entry/Year 2 graduate entry medical students to include design and coordination of the programme of lectures, case sessions, small group sessions and pathology 'pot' teaching across all pathology specialties (to include cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine, CNS, skin, breast and gynaecological pathology, including post mortem). - Designing and leading basic histology teaching for Year 1 Graduate Entry medical students. - Developing and delivering innovative online teaching material. - Promoting teaching and engaging with prospective Systems Pathology tutors. - Developing and standardising assessment, including for end of year Laboratory Medicine examination. - Strategic engagement with the Laboratory Medicine course Teaching and Assessment team including programme design. - Collection Responsible Officer and Person Designated for NDCLS Pathology museum. - Engagement with academic activities as part of the Cellular pathology team. ST-1 Training Lead The role will involve: - Planning and leading the delivery of training for new histopathologists in their ST-1 year. - Delivering regular training sessions. - Organising other staff to deliver training both integrated within the daily cellular pathology clinical workflow and as specific sessions. - In conjunction with the Training Program Director monitoring and assuring the progress and welfare of trainees.
- FRCPath or equivalent
- Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. OR, Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
- Specialist training in gynae pathology
- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview. Desirable criteria
- Higher medical degree, Essential criteria
- Independent reporting of complex gynae cases
- Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems., Ability to lead and to support the leadership of others
- Effective administrative and time management skills. Training in clinical management.
- Understanding of management roles in NHS pathology and willingness to engage with and participate in management.
- Evidence of ability to work in a clinical team at the level of a consultant in a teaching hospital
- Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork
- Willingness to share cases and seek second opinions appropriately
- Good spoken and written English.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training
- Evidence of effective and sustained contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit activities Desirable criteria
- Management qualification.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary for explaining complex situations to professionals and non-professionals
