We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Acute Medicine Consultant to join our friendly and enthusiastic team. The successful candidate will join six other substantive consultants in providing the highest quality care possible for patients across in our Acute Assessment Unit and our Same Day Emergency Care Unit at Pinderfields Hospital.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have a specialist interest within research., The main duties of the post will include

Provide on-call and consultant-present care across our sites, with a primary focus on the acute Medical Assessment Unit (AAU) at Pinderfields Hospital and on Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) at Pinderfields Hospital, and each of the team take a share of consultant-present evening and weekend duties, along with the general medical on-call team.

Daytime Duties: part of the scheduled weekly timetable (below) with two consultants providing concurrent wards in close liaison with a third, coordinating, consultant who provides assessment and coordination with the Emergency Department. Sub-specialty support is provided from respiratory, cardiology, diabetes, acute oncology and neurology teams.

Weekday Evenings: scheduled rounds are provided until 2100 on a (planned)1:16 basis, paired with a consultant geriatrician who leads a parallel round caring for older patients.

Weekend Daytime: scheduled rounds are provided 0900-1700hrs on a (planned) 1:8 basis in parallel with two consultant geriatricians and a respiratory consultant.

On-Call (non-resident, supporting the resident junior staff) is combined general medicine/elderly care and is currently on a 1:16 basis, assessed as 1.5PA.

We provide care and support to over a million people in Wakefield and Kirklees in their homes, community settings and across our three hospital sites at Pontefract, Dewsbury and Pinderfields (Wakefield).
