Full Job Description

We invite applicants to 2 new posts to help expansion of our Acute Medical services in Gloucestershire. Applicants qualified as Acute Physicians will join a growing number in Gloucestershire, but applicants from an organ based specialty will also be welcome and a blended job-plan may be possible with liaison from the relevant specialty lead. The department currently comprises 10 substantive physicians and 3 long term locums (approx. 11 WTE) and we look to increase this to cover an expanded service. Applicants wishing to work fewer than 10PAs per week will also be welcomed as we are a very flexible department., Consultant reviews of patients seen on the General Medical TakeOngoing Care of patients in the AMU with daily reviewLead care of patients presenting through SDECLiaise with local GPs and other community practitioners to direct patients to the most appropriate access point first timeSupervise medical trainees at every level of training (Med student through to ST7)Lead the Acute Medical MDT dailyContribute to the development of Acute Medical services in the region

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the largest employer in the county and with over 8,000 staff, we are one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK. The Medical Division contains cardiology (interventional and non-interventional); respiratory medicine; geriatrics/frailty; gastroenterology; nephrology; neurology; diabetes & endocrinology; dermatology; rheumatology. The trust also runs a centre of excellence for oncology/haematology and cancer surgery (upper and lower GI; urology; gynaecology and breast surgery) at Cheltenham General Hospital. This all allows a very high level of support for the Acute Medical service with daily inreach from the main medical specialties and ad hoc review from the others following referral.
