This is a really exciting time to join the Trust as we further develop our dedicated elective site at Ashford Hospital to achieve our vision of creating a state-of-the-art centre of excellence for planned surgical procedures; with care delivered by dedicated, specialist teams in a modern and well-equipped environment.
We are looking for four Consultants in Anaesthesia to join our talented and enthusiastic team of over 40 consultants and eight specialty doctors, working in a friendly and flexible department. The opportunities have been created by a combination of replacement posts and service expansion.
This role will be predominantly based within the Elective Centre at Ashford Hospital, there is an on-call commitment included in this post, the supplement is 3%. Each session equates to 1.25 PAs. The remainder of the job plan will be at St Peter's Hospital, our acute site in Chertsey.

This role forms part of the Department of Anaesthesia where we are proud of our effective multidisciplinary team working between medical, nursing, management and support staff. We are also supported by a strong team of Staff grade, Associate Specialists, Middle Grade Fellows and Trainee Anaesthetists.
Our plans are ambitious, why not come and join our team?, The main duties for this role will be to:
- Deliver Clinical, Educational and Managerial Services of the highest professional standard at Consultant Level.
- Work with existing consultants and the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high quality well-led service for patients of Ashford & St Peter's, including the diagnosis, investigations, treatment and management of patients, in accordance with Trust policies and practices.
- Deliver Direct Clinical Care to patients assisting clinical decision-making and sharing equally in the workload
INTERVIEW DATE: 30th September 2024, In addition to the main duties highlighted above, the postholder will be required to develop the clinical leadership team.
The Consultant team will provide comprehensive senior clinical cover to the Department including:
- Pre-operative assessment of patients
- Consultant delivered peri-operative care.
- Engagement with local and national audit projects including NELA
- Supporting the Resuscitation Department and the Cardiac Catheterisation Lab
- Work flexibly where required.
- Any changes will be by negotiation and will be reflected in the job plans of the teams.
Have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, ensuring safe handover as appropriate.
Engage fully with the care of patients outside the department and provide a prompt opinion on request from consultant colleagues in other specialties.
Engage with medical, nursing, management and all relevant co-workers in the delivery of departmental objectives: to provide clinical leadership, improve the patient experience; ensure the highest quality clinical care.
Actively participate in and support other staff with education, research, audit and clinical governance activities involving a multi-disciplinary workforce across the departments and divisions
Participate in the professional training of the staff in the department, both medical and non-medical, and contribute as required to teaching sessions for other hospital staff as well as undergraduate and postgraduate staff, including supervision of junior medical staff. Teaching and training will require verification of teaching certification.
Support recruitment, appraisal, development and mentoring activities to a multi-disciplinary, multi-professional team.
Undertake any other duties appropriate for a consultant.
