Experience Essential
• Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems, both emergency and elective - including anaesthesia for major upper and lower abdominal surgery, thoracic, maxillofacial, ENT, oral surgery, ECT and obstetric surgery and interventions
• Evidence of a specialist interest in at least one of the following areas: regional, advanced airway anaesthesia, perioperative medicine, obstetric anaesthesia
• Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients

• Evidence of developing a specialist service or demonstration of innovation in chosen sub-speciality area

Together, we form one of the largest NHS trusts in the country.The Department of General Anaesthesia sits within the Division of Surgery however, the wider anaesthesia service bridges four clinical divisions of UHBW: Surgery (general anaesthesia and critical care), Specialised Services (cardiac anaesthesia), Women's and Children's (paediatric and obstetric anaesthesia) and Weston. The Department of Anaesthesia is seeking consultants in general anaesthesia with a subspecialty interest in thoracic anaesthesia to join the team based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. The successful applicant will join a group of 45 substantive consultants within the general anaesthesia group. The post will be offered at 10 PAs., This post will be based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary with lists at Weston General Hospital. The post will address a flexible service requirement for adult general anaesthetic services for maxillofacial, ENT, dental, obstetrics, gynaecology, thoracic, upper & lower GI, hepatobiliary, ophthalmic surgery, fixed lines, trauma, acute and chronic pain and pre-operative assessment. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the general on-call consultant rota (currently approximately 1:22).The role will be split across the following hospital sites: Bristol Royal Infirmary, St Michael's Hospital, Bristol Eye Hospital, South Bristol Community Hospital and Weston General Hospital.
