Full Job Description
We are seeking a passionate Consultant in Child & Adolescent Mental Health to join our New Forest CAMHS team, based at Ashurst Child and Family Centre, Southampton. In this role, you will lead on clinical care and offer specialist mental health support to young people in the New Forest region. With a focus on assessment, consultation, and treatment, you will work closely with a skilled multi-disciplinary team, which includes experts in CBT, family therapy, and creative therapies. Your role includes regular clinical sessions, service development, and supporting the professional growth of junior doctors and colleagues. If you're ready to lead, inspire, and shape the future of young people's mental health, we want to hear from you!, As a Consultant in Child & Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS), you will provide clinical leadership and specialist care within a dedicated team, offering assessments, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatments for young people with complex mental health needs. You will work closely with families, carers, and multi-disciplinary colleagues, ensuring that patient-centred, holistic care remains at the core of our service. Key duties include managing a small caseload, conducting patient assessments, developing treatment plans, and providing clinical oversight and guidance to the team. You will play a pivotal role in service development, enhancing treatment pathways and championing recovery-focused care models. You will also engage in teaching, mentoring junior doctors and other staff, and participating in audit and quality improvement initiatives.
- Relevant Higher Degree e.g., MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
- Full Registration with the General Medical Council
- MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
- Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 12 months of CCT at time of interview. CCT in general Child and Adolescent psychiatry.
- Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983. Desirable
- Liaison accreditation.
- To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post Experience Essential
- Prior experience of general adult psychiatry
- Prior experience of working with detained/Mental Health inpatients as senior trainee or consultant.
- Prior experience in please add in any other essential clinical requirements.
- Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance. Desirable
- Proven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care.
- Experience of crisis, inpatient or community mental health team care for Child and Adolescents.
