Full Job Description

This is a substantive post for a Consultant in Critical Care and Anaesthesia. It is a full-time post to cover sessions made available as a result of job plan changes in the department. It is based around a 1:8 on call in Critical Care and a 10PA contract. The position would support dual CCT in critical care. The department would will only consider those with CCTs or equivalence in Critical Care and Anaesthesia. Sessions will be decided upon consultation with the clinical lead and speciality director but initial approx. 2/3 of job planned sessions will be in Critical Care. The post could be filled on a whole or part time basis. Any candidate who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full time will still be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis. Job share applicants are also welcome.Main duties of the job .The successful applicant will join the existing team of approx. 18 Critical Care consultants working for the trust in the two main sites of Gloucester and Cheltenham. In addition there are approx. 45 general anaesthetic consultants working in both central sites and peripheral community hospitals. As a senior employee of the Trust the post-holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other, clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients. Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:-

  • To ensure the provision of a first-class clinical service
  • To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
  • To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
  • To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies
  • To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's services plan
  • To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Surgical Division or the Trust., Anaesthetics, ICU and Pain Medicine are part of the Trust's Surgical Division. The Chief of Service is Miss Margaret Coyle, who also holds clinical commitments as a maxillo-facial surgeon. The Divisional Director of Service Delivery is Mr Simon Burchfield and the Divisional Nursing Director is Mrs. Sarah Mather (Divisional Director of Quality and Nursing Surgery). The General Manager for Anaesthesia/Critical Care and Pain is Mrs Rebecca Offord.
