PLEASE NOTE it is a requirement of this Trust that all successful applicants pay for their DBS certificate if a check is required for the post. All new entrants to the NHS will be appointed on the minimum of the pay scale in line with Terms & Conditions., The advertised post of Consultant in Critical Care and Anaesthetics is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead.
The Critical Care Department ia a 12-bedded, purpose-built, mixed medical and surgical adult critical care unit, accepting approximately 1000 admissions per year. There are 6 level 3 and 6 level 2 commissioned beds, which are used flexibly, with the ability to increase bed capacity if required. The unit is equipped to a very high standard, with addition of new BBraun smart pump technology, new fully integrated GE monitoring, and new BBraun CRRT machines, all within the last 2 years, to provide comprehensive care of the critically ill patient. The department is recognized for intermediate and advanced training in Intensive Care Medicine.
Consultant cover is provided by 10 WTE's with an interest in Intensive Care Medicine. There are 20 daytime weekday sessions delivered by Consultants in Intensive Care Medicine. Daytime delivery of sessions is in blocks of two to five days. The junior resident rota is staffed by a combination of Core and Specialty Anaesthetics trainees, ACCS trainees, Respiratory Specialty trainees and Foundation Programme doctors.
Interviews will be held on Thursday 31st October 2024, This is a new post for an anaesthetist with a specialist interest in critical care medicine. The post holder will provide high quality care for patients within the Critical Care Unit and provide perioperative care for elective and emergency patients across the range of specialities available within the QE Hospital., The role is based in the Department of Anaesthetics, Critical Care and Pain Medicine. This service sits within the Surgical Business Unit (SBU). The SBU also incorporates all surgical specalties, Women's Health and Paediatrics. There are separate Clinical Leads for Anaesthetics and for Critical Care, working alongside Service Line Managers, and led by a Clinical Head of Service and a business unit Operations Director.
