Full Job Description

The Photodermatology Service provides a tertiary photodermatology services for a large part of Southern England, which include a specialist photodermatosis clinical service, specialist phototesting, comprehensive phototherapy services including UVA1 therapy and the Regional managed Clinical Network for Phototherapy.

The NCG Xeroderma Pigmentosum Service aims to jointly manage all the patients in the UK in partnership with their local Consultants. The philosophy is to keep everything local that can be done locally, and to do the really specialised work in the central multidisciplinary service at St Thomas'. There are two parts to the service:

1. The multidisciplinary service at the Rare Disease Centre, St Thomas' Hospital (Photodermatology, Dermatological Surgery, Neurology (Adult and Paediatric), Genetics, Ophthalmology, Psychology, Skin Imaging, Diagnostic laboratory (University of Sussex and Guy's Hospital) and Patient Support group input).

2. The Outreach Network: a team of CNSs and the XP Consultant work with the rest of the XP team and with local Consultants to see that patients and their families receive the right care during the periods between appointments at St Thomas'.

The service works closely with Action for XP, the UK patient support group for individuals/families affected by Xeroderma Pigmentosum.

As an organisation, we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This includes asking certain groups of staff to work more flexibly so that we can offer services to patients in the evenings and at weekends. We regard this flexibility as essential if we are to continue to provide first class patient care in the future. As a result, any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern of working in the future if required and in accordance with the provisions of the new Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust consultant contract.
