Full Job Description
A high performing organisation, rated good by the CQC, with a track record of success. This is an exciting time to join the Acute Medicine and Medicine Specialties Teams at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. The aspirations for our patient focused services are bold. We are a forward thinking team that prides itself on providing high quality clinical care. We aim to have a true 7 day service and, to realise that aim, we are increasing our consultant physician workforce by 50% over the next 2 years. There will also be a marked increase in junior medical and other clinical staff to support this development.
We are an enthusiastic and motivated unit providing ample opportunities to develop and reshape the delivery of both diabetes and endocrine services in County Durham and Darlington. We are looking for new colleagues who will be able to work with us to achieve this goal.
We see this as a great opportunity for those who have traditionally worked within the hospital and those moving into their first consultant post, to consider ingenious ways of delivering care closer to home while being an established secondary care clinician.
Main duties of the job
The basic contract is for 10 programmed activites (PAs) with elective outpatient work and inpatient care in both diabetes and endocrine services. These duties will be shared with the 5 (1 part time) other consultants based in UHND making it a 1:5 flexible commitment and 4 other consultants based in DMH making a 1:5 commitment.
The successful candidates will provide skills in diabetes and endocrinology but will be encouraged to develop additional special expertise of their choosing (for example diabetic foot, bone metabolism, type 1 diabetes, lipid services or erectile dysfunction services) to complement the special interests of the other consultants within the Trust.
If you are being interviewed you must accept an interview slot in the system to continue, even if you have arranged with the manager
You must be able to produce ALL certificates stated essential in the person specification or you will not be able to complete pre-employment checks
We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
