Full Job Description

Our Emergency Medicine Consultants pride themselves on providing a high quality and visible "shop floor" leadership presence, together with high standards of education, training, research and audit. The post holders will work in close co-operation with nursing, managerial and medical colleagues to provide high quality and timely healthcare to the Trust's patients.

The Consultant will have responsibility for the efficient reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and management of all emergencies attending the department.

The Consultant will ensure that after the appropriate initial management, the patients are dispersed into hospital beds, specialist units, other hospitals, either local or regional, or to the main operating theatres as the case may be, in accordance with the Admissions Policy.

The Consultant will need to manage patients within the department's boundary, including the short stay area adjacent to the emergency department, except where this is negotiated with the Clinical director

This post is offered on a full-time basis. The candidate should possess a CCT (or be within three months of obtaining), and should be listed on the Specialist Register at the time of taking up the post. Active participation in Research, Audit and Teaching is encouraged and supported. The candidate will need to demonstrate professional excellence and ability to deliver effective care.

The Trust is committed to ensuring that flexible working policies are in place to promote a healthy work life balance. This enables the Trust to consider and support applications for flexible working such as term time, part time and job sharing.
