Full Job Description
We are seeking for two enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrists to join our Liaison Psychiatry team. Our team works in a large acute Trust with several tertiary services. We work closely with our acute colleagues to provide holistic care for patients with mental health needs who are admitted to the hospital. We diagnose and manage patients with a wide range of mental health problems who have physical morbidities, and support teams to manage patients with multiple, long term chronic health conditions. The team is funded for a total of 5.0 WTE consultants with doctors-in-training, a team of nurse practitioners and liaison psychology as part of the department. Post 1 - Consultant General Adult Liaison Psychiatrist with a special interest in substance use disorders 8 PA post withtwo sessions within this job for a special interest in Substance Use Disorders Psychiatry. Post 2 - Consultant General Adult Liaison Psychiatrist & Education Lead for Liaison Psychiatry Team 8 PA post with two sessions within this job to act as Education Lead for the department, supporting our existing Education Team. Main duties of the job The post-holder will be based at based at Southampton General Hospital, University Southampton Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust https://www.uhs.nhs.uk/Ourhospitals/SGH/SouthamptonGeneralHospital.aspx The post holder will be appointed by Southern Health Foundation Trust (the mental health trust) but in addition have an honorary contract with University Hospitals Southampton NHS Trust (the acute trust). This post is part of a liaison psychiatry MDT service covering the whole hospital (Emergency Department, Acute Medical Unit and wards), working alongside adult liaison consultants and old age liaison consultants. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical leadership and consultant input into the Adult Liaison Psychiatry team. There is opportunity to develop a special interest in an area of the medical Trust (e.g. surgery, medicine, obstetrics) according to the areas of interest for the post-holder. The general adult liaison psychiatry team has an established 24/7 practitioner cover. We have an established Band 7 triage model to maintain good performance in meeting the CORE 24 standards. We work as an MDT including consultant psychiatrists, doctors-in-training, liaison psychologists, and nurses as well as a well staffed admin team including a dedicated medical secretary.,
- Full Registration with the General Medical CouncilMRCPsych or recognised equivalentEligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 12 months of CCT at time of interview. CCT in general adult psychiatry.Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
Prior experience of liaison psychiatry (adults) - Prior experience of working with detained/Mental Health inpatients as senior trainee or consultant.
- Prior experience in Addictions psychiatry (Substance use Disorder role)
- Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance.
