Full Job Description

The 4 Infection Consultants (Including this post), 1 Infection Specialist Trainee and 1 FY3+ post-holder collectively are responsible for delivering the clinical infection services for the Trust and local GPs. We have a busy Microbiology laboratory and a wide range of clinical queries which reflect both the ethnic backgrounds, international travel patterns and social deprivation of the local population. The opinion of the Infection team is frequently sought both by the hospital's ward teams and local GPs and there is close liaison with the local Health Protection Unit. The Infection Consultants are actively involved in delivering the undergraduate and postgraduate educational programs at the Trust. We seek an enthusiastic and dynamic Consultant colleague to work in partnership with the existing Infection Consultants. Processing approximately 40,0000 specimens annually we have a busy Microbiology laboratory and clinical service which reflects the ethnic backgrounds, international travel patterns and social deprivation of the local population. The 4 Infection consultants (including this post), Specialist Infection Trainee and Clinical Fellow are responsible for delivering the Infection services for the Trust and local GPs., All Infection Consultants are expected to contribute to:

  • Day-to-day supervision of diagnostic methods and examination of specimens/results
  • Authorisation and interpretation of results
  • Attendance at the Acute Care Unit 10:30 handover meeting when Duty Infection Consultant
  • Antimicrobial Virtual Ward Round when Duty Infection Consultant
  • ITU & NICU Ward Rounds when Duty Infection Consultant
  • Involvement in policy and SOP preparation
  • Participation in clinical and laboratory audit
  • Participation in, and contribution to, departmental education, teaching and research activities
