Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Consultant Medical Microbiologist or Consultant in Infectious Diseases / Microbiology to join North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service (NMCPS). The appointee will be part of a team of four Consultant Microbiologists and three Infectious Disease Consultants at Royal Stoke University Hospital (University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust) and a Consultant Microbiologists based at Mid Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust who collectively provide a comprehensive clinical Microbiology / ID service to the Trusts served by the NMCPS., You will be working in a forward thinking team of microbiologists / infectious diseases physicians. The clinical microbiology duties are well organised and there are several ward rounds / MDTs each week. Both Trusts has robust IP and AMS teams in which microbiologists / ID physicians actively involved. - Full and Specialist registration with the GMC or eligible for registration within 6 months of interview
- Holder of CCT
- FRCPath or evidence of equivalent
- Mb ChB or evidence of equivalent Desirable
- Higher Medical Degree PhD / MD
- Evidence of additional qualification relevant to Microbiology and Infection Control
- MRCP or evidence of equivalent qualification Experience Essential
- Evidence of broad training and experience in Microbiology
- Vast experience in the diagnosis and treatment of infections
- Evidence of working in the UK infections disease unit Desirable
- Experience in infection control or experience in clinical virology and molecular diagnostic microbiology Achievements Essential
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
- Evidence of audit and the implentation of change following audit
- Awareness of current speciality specific developments
- Knowledge of the principles involved in research Desirable
- Evidence of having undertaken original research
- Publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals in the last five years Management Experience Essential
- Ability to organise and manage workload
- Ability to motivate and develop a multidisciplinary team
- Able to support the Pathology Clinical Director
- Exposure and understanding of managerial issues Desirable
- Management experience
- Experience of supervising trainee Microbiologists
- Training in medical education Professional and Multidisciplinary Team Working Essential
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues and within a team

The post is a substantive; full time (up to PA) replacement post based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital (RSUH) site.
