Full Job Description
We have state of the art hospitals at Pontefract and Wakefield and are upgrading the existing Dewsbury Hospital to the same standard. Maternity services are delivered at all three Trust sites. We have antenatal clinics at all three sites and Midwifery Led Birth centres at Pinderfields and Dewsbury as well as a dedicated Consultant led labour ward at Pinderfields providing 98 hour resident cover per week. Our labour ward is directly linked to our neonatal unit where we have an excellent working relationship with our neonatal team. A separate team is responsible for Elective Caesarean sections and also provide back up to the Labour ward teams if required. We also offer a excellent bereavement service for mothers who have suffered a still birth or late miscarriage.
There are 3 antenatal day units, one at each hospital site providing daily assessments and reviews. Our present team offer expertise in Maternal Medicine, Multiple pregnancy, Preterm Clinics with cervical length scanning, Fetal Assessment and SGA Scans and high risk Obstetrics. The department is fully supported by Obstetric Anaesthetists, Radiology and the on call team is provided back up by the Gynaecology on call team., The main duties of the post will include
Antenatal Clinics & Specialist Clinics 09.00 13.00 or 1.30 17.30
Relevant MDTs will also be planned into the job plan
Elective Caesarian Lists 08.00 13.00, 13.30 18.30 this includes pre and post op ward rounds
Administrative duties, for which appropriate office space and secretarial support is provided

o Friday/Sunday on-call weekend - resident 08:00 to 19.30 hours during weekends Saturday and Sunday and then non resident until 08:00
o Saturday on-call weekend as above
o Short working weekend 08:00 to 16:00 Saturday and Sunday (no overnight on-call)
o non-patient-facing duties on a post-on call day
Hot Week (Alternate Antenatal/Labour Ward) 1 week in 8: Monday to Friday 08:00 18:00 hrs (relieved of other activities during this period) This will include ward rounds.
Weekday On-call duties for Obstetrics is shared with 16 colleagues on an approximately 1:16 basis (resident from 17:30 hours until 23:00 hours during weekdays Monday to Friday and then non resident until 08:00)
