Full Job Description

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and ambitious colleague to work within our exciting, ever-expanding Paediatric Department, and specifically into our local Paediatric Nephrology Service. The substantive post has become available due to increased workload within the specialty, which up till now has been led by a single special interest (SPIN) consultant. Increased capacity to deliver and improve quality specialist care closer to children's homes, means a fantastic opportunity awaits anyone with an interest and training in paediatric nephrology. The post holder will support paediatric nephrology work and some general paediatric emergency and elective work too, including outpatient clinics. Successful applicants will have a job plan that includes general Paediatric service weeks, on calls out of hours and during weekends in addition to outpatient clinics. We have separate general paediatric and neonatal rotas across all three tiers and you are not expected to contribute towards the Neonatal on call rota. This post comes with 1.5 core SPA time, which is equivalent to those of other Consultants within the Department. You will be encouraged to take on a leadership role in education/risk/service development should you wish to do so, usually by increasing the proportion of SPAs., The post holder will provide acute and outpatient services in Paediatrics and Nephrology. They will also participate in the general paediatric rota. They will also provide appropriate teaching and supervision of junior doctors and medical students. He/she will be expected to work closely with primary and tertiary care to provide a seamless service. As a senior employee of the Trust the post-holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients. Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements: Ensure the provision of a first-class clinical service Provide effective clinical leadership Workwithin the principles of clinical governance Sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate Undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies Conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's services plans Maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Women and Children's Division or the Trust
