Clinical Microbiology is within the Infection Division which is one of six Divisions within the Medicine Board led by Charles House. The Infection Division comprises the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, infectious diseases inpatient and outpatient activity including the OPAT clinic, Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Virology, Parasitology, Infection Prevention & Control, Find & Treat and NathNac. The Division works closely with the Pathology Division. Within the Divisions of Infection each discipline has a Clinical Lead. The post holder will be accountable to Mike Brown, Divisional Clinical Director of Infection, via the Clinical Lead for Microbiology, Trupti Patel. Within Microbiology there are 11 Consultants, many of whom are less than full time and also have other activities such as research. We are a very supportive team and aim to

provide the best care for patients at UCLH through our activities. UCLH Microbiology is a training centre with 4-5 microbiology trainees at any one time and a comprehensive training programme. The appointee would be expected to participate in the supervision, training and mentoring of junior medical staff. As a department, we participate in a range of teaching activities including undergraduates, specialty trainees, trainees from other specialties, laboratory staff, infection control staff and trainee clinical scientist staff.
