An opportunity has arisen to join our team of enthusiastic, motivated and committed Consultants in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, contributing towards enhancing maternal safety within our unit. The post is a new role following approval of expansion of consultant body to provide gynae cover during on call. The successful candidate will have a strong obstetric focus, and should be able to demonstrate experience and interest in fetal medicine, preterm clinic and high risk obstetrics. A complementary interest in maternal medicine would also be of advantage and lend support to the existing consultant body in their provision of obstetric services. The post is planned for 10 PAs., This Job will provide clinical services across Southeast London as we continue to expand our activity across Kent. We provide outpatient and inpatient care on the Queen Mary's Hospital site in Sidcup, and will be expanding antenatal care in to the community as well.The provisional make-up of the post is described below, pending any changes that are agreed with the Clinical Director and the appointee, within 3 months of appointment. The successful candidate must be on the Specialist Register with the GMC or be within six months of obtaining CCT or CESR.

The PAs are calculated over a 42 week cycle in which the appointee will do 5.8 hot weeks (Monday - Friday 0830 - 1730). These weeks (or portions thereof) can be swapped but leave cannot be taken during them.

  • 1.25 PA (averaged) for the hot weeks.
  • 1.75 PA for flexible emergency cover (evenings and weekends)
  • 0.25 PA for unpredictable on-call
  • 5.25 PAs for other daytime work. (Antenatal, Gynaecology clinic , Gynaecology operating, Caesarean section list) - These figures are approximate and will be discussed during the recruitment process.
  • The activity and timing of the SPAs will be discussed and agreed with the Clinical Director within the first 3 months of the start of the post.
  • The on-call supplement will be 3%. The selected candidate should not take up labour ward on call responsibilities whilst on a different site or whilst doing any private sessions. Similarly you should not take on labour ward on call whilst covering another clinic Our staff are our most valuable asset.
