The ideal candidate will possess extensive training in Oncoplastic breast surgery, demonstrate excellent communication skills, and exhibit a strong commitment to teamwork and collaborative practice. The post holder will also contribute to the ongoing advancement of our breast unit, which is housed in the modern Treatment Centre area of the hospital. The facility offers a spacious, modern environment with excellent ergonomics, ensuring optimal experience for both patients and staff.
JD/PS Pending Royal College Approval, The primary clinical responsibilities of the post holder are: -
+ To ensure the provision and delivery of a first-class clinical service.
+ To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty.
+ To provide specialist breast surgical services for in-patients, day cases and out-patients, with continuing responsibility for the patients and their care and for the proper functioning of the department.
+ To support and continue to develop the Oncoplastic/reconstructive aspects of the breast service.
+ To contribute to the Breast MDT.
+ To activate particulate and undertake audit.
+ To actively remain clinically competent.
+ To teach staff/medical students.
+ To work to all Trust Policies and procedures.
+ To work flexibly.

We provide exceptional support to our employees who serve as reservists, ensuring they can balance their civilian and military responsibilities effectively., The successful candidate will join our innovative breast unit to provide comprehensive breast surgical services in collaboration with Northampton General Hospital. This position, open due to retirement of a valued colleague, focuses on the timely diagnosis and surgical treatment of breast cancer, with particular emphasis on oculoplastic procedures.
In 2023, our unit diagnosed 298 patients and provided treatment to 254 patients. The unit offers state-of-the-art facilities having recently benefited a newly built waiting lounge and garden area as well as recent investment in refurbishing breast screening facilities within the unit.
The post will suit a candidate who has recently gained their CCT in Breast surgery (and who is on the specialist register).

Including factual reference, occupational health clearance and statutory and mandatory training record.
If you need to have a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check, as a requirement of the role, you will be required to repay the cost of obtaining a DBS check (£50) and this amount will be reclaimed from your first salary. From 1st February 2019 all new starters to the Trust are required to join the DBS update service as per Trust DBS Re-checking Policy which has an annual cost of £13. New employees who do not join the update service will be required to pay £50 for a new DBS check in 3 years time.
Please note that news starters with KGH are subject to a six month probationary period.
