Full Job Description

A full-time 10 PA post as a substantive Consultant in Medical Retina is advertised, and suitable candidates should have completed CCT, or equivalent (CESR), and must be on the Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of doing so, at the time of interview. Full GMC registration is required. The ideal candidate must have a post-CCT Fellowship in medical retina. The 10 PAs are apportioned 8.5 for direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 for supporting professional activity (SPA) with an on-call commitment. This post is a medical post with cataract surgical activity built into the job plan and there is a virtual session which can be done remotely.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Consultant Ophthalmologist with expertise in Medical Retina to join our established team of 24 Consultants at the Oxford Eye Hospital.

The post holder's duties will be primarily at the Oxford Eye Hospital based at the John Radcliffe site as well as Wantage Community Hospital. It is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations.

Clinical Duties of post

Aims and responsibilities

The post holder will provide medical retina services (AMD, vascular medical retina and specialist retina) to patients living in Oxfordshire and referred from neighbouring areas. Cataract surgical activity will be included for candidates able to perform high-volume cataract surgery, and there is also the opportunity to join existing consultants in rotas for weekend lists. The successful candidate will be expected to continue to develop the already established tertiary referral base and contribute to the research, training, and teaching profile of the Oxford Eye Hospital.

Clinical

The Oxford Eye Hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities including a full range of imaging technologies including fluorescein and ICG angiography, OCTA, PDT and electrodiagnostic testing. Our medical retina department utilises virtual clinics in addition to face-to-face appointments., OXFORD UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS NHS FOUNDATION TRUST

OUH Trust is a large world-class specialist teaching hospital providing secondary care for the whole of Oxfordshire as well being a tertiary referral Centre. The services of the Trust are provided by four hospitals: The John Radcliffe Hospital, The Churchill Hospital, The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and The Horton Hospital in Banbury.

The Oxford Eye Hospital provides a medical ophthalmology service to the Oxfordshire Population This post is to provide consultant-level cover in uveitis and medical retina (AMD). There is one medical ophthalmology fellow 3 medical retina fellows and optometrists with extended roles and Deanery trainees who work in the service. The intravitreal injection service is provided largely by allied health professionals. Separate vascular medical retina and vitreoretinal services are provided and are outside the scope of this post. The post is based on Oxford Eye Hospital. The medical ophthalmology & medical retina departments are using virtual as well as face-to-face appointments.
