Full Job Description

The post is based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, a major teaching hospital closely allied with the University of Leicester and the medical school.

This is a new post as part of the restoration and recovery strategy and due to the increasing demand on services from outreach providers. The post holder will join two existing colleagues with a Lower GI Interest. Flexible working will be required with inclusion in to the hub and spoke service the team deliver regionally. The post will require travel regionally to deliver elective clinical care. Subspecialty interests will be supported whenever possible.

This post is one of eight surgeons and will join the 1:8 on call rota which has been organised to enable separation of emergency care from elective care.

· To support and participate in the tertiary paediatric surgical service in the Children's Hospital including on-call. To work in collaboration with the existing multidisciplinary team to enhance and further develop the services provided for neonates and children in Leicestershire and beyond. To take responsibility for in and out-patients under the care of the named consultant.

· To provide cover when On Call for patients of colleagues not available at base site due to peripheral commitments.

· To maintain the paediatric surgery service at UHL and provide outreach service to Peripheral Hospitals.

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,

  • being a great place to work,

  • partnerships for impact, and

  • research and education excellence

  • And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
  • we are compassionate,

  • we are proud,

  • we are inclusive, and

  • we are one team

  • This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
