Full Job Description

This is an amazing opportunity to take advantage of an exciting post of Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in Neurology at the Royal Derby Hospital.

As well as providing a high-quality paediatric service, you will work together with senior colleagues in shaping the future of paediatric services.

You will have shared responsibility for the operational performance, clinical quality, and resource management of the service.

Main duties of the job

The role on offer is for an 8 PA contract with potential scope for further PA's in the future subject to job planning. It will include a 1 : 8 on-call commitment for general Paediatrics and for providing an out-of-hours emergency service (non-resident Rota), on a shared basis with other Consultants within the Department for which an on-call availability supplement is payable.

You will be responsible for the continuing care and treatment of patients in your charge and personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan.

It is essential for applicants for substantive Consultant posts to be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within six months of their CCT date at the interview date

Ability to offer expert opinion & take full & independentresponsibility for clinical care of patients across the wide spectrum of paediatric disorders.

Experience of & commitment to teaching undergraduates & postgraduate

An interest / experience in Paediatric Neurology

Experience of supervising F1, F2, ST trainees

Ability to & experience of teaching clinical skills, Essential

  • MBBS / MBChB or equivalent

  • Full GMC Registration with a Licence to practice at time of application

  • Full Membership of RCPCH

  • Have CCT or within 6 months of attaining CCT at time of interview or entry onto GMC Specialist Register by time of interview or equivalent

  • APLS provider

  • Training in Child Protection / Safeguarding (Min Level 3)

  • Interest / experience in Paediatric epilepsy and neurology


  • Clinical Experience

    Essential
  • Good standard of clinical skill & expertise in Paediatrics

  • Comprehensive technical competence in Paediatrics

  • Experience in making clinical decisions and ability to prioritise clinical need.

  • Evidence of ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team & share clinical responsibilities


  • Management & Administrative Experience

    Essential
  • Evidence of active participation in audit.

  • Demonstrates clear understanding of current priorities in General Paediatrics


  • Teaching Experience

    Essential
  • Experience of teaching undergraduates.

  • Commitment to participate in own appraisal.

  • Qualification in medical education
