Full Job Description
We are looking for a new enthusiastic Consultant Physician who has a passion to deliver excellent care to patients at Good Hope Hospital. Effective management of the acute, unselected medical workload is a major priority for the Trust, and we are looking to recruit consultants who will help us to deliver high quality care by working within and alongside the existing Acute Medicine teams. These are 10PA jobs and will be personalised to the successful candidate. Appointees must have necessary qualifications and should either be on the Specialist Register of the GMC or be within 6 months of the CCT at the time of interview. Opportunities for teaching are available in our simulation suite and clinical skills area. JOB PLAN (INDICATIVE) PA with 7-day senior-led direct clinical activities; subspecialty work and associated administration; up to 1 PA for acute unselected medical on-call; prospective cover for colleagues' annual and study leave. Job plan can be tailored to a candidate's specialist interests. Applications for less than whole time working are welcomed. PA Supporting activities to include :

- Other Roles and Responsibilities Main duties of the job CLINICAL CARE :
- To have oversight of all team activity during that clinical session and provide support to other registered and non-registered clinical practitioners when needed.
- Demonstrate excellence in patient care
- To provide appropriate supervision to resident doctors and other clinical practitioners
- Administrative duties related to patient care
- Contribution to undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing medical education activity, including AHPs as part of the multidisciplinary team.
- Regular participation in departmental and directorate meetings.
- Consultants are encouraged and supported with research projects.
- To help the department and Trust in emergencies.
- Appropriate evening and weekend on-call commitments.

- Shared ward rounds of the acute medicine footprint.
- Assessment of new patients within the Emergency Department, AMU, MAU & SDEC unit, including post-take ward rounds. MANAGEMENT, SUPERVISORY, TEACHING, TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES
- All consultants in the department are managerially accountable through the Clinical Service Leads to the CDG Medical Director, who has overall responsibility for the services within the Directorate.
- The successful candidates will provide necessary educational and clinical supervision for resident doctors and other health professionals working in their team. In addition, participation in the departmental and Trust-wide teaching programmes for the relevant resident medical staff and members of the multidisciplinary teams is expected. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
- Consultants are key members of the Directorate Team and are accountable and responsible for leading changes to service that will improve the patient experience.
- To contribute to the leadership and development of the services under the direction of the Clinical Service Leads and CDG Medical Director and in line with the Trust's business plans.
- The Trust supports the requirements for continuing Professional Development as laid down by the Royal College of Physicians and is committed to providing time and resources for these activities, including Study leave as per Trust Study Leave policy.
- The Trust encourages newly appointed consultants to seek mentoring support from senior consultants within the trust or externally.
- The Trust has the required arrangements in place to ensure that all doctors have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and supports doctors through the revalidation process. For further information, please refer to the attached JD.
- MBBS or equivalent
- MRCP or equivalent
- Entry on the GMC specialist register for General Internal Medicine or Acute Medicine Desirable
- Higher degree (eg MD or PhD) Experience Essential
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required to gain UK CCT in general Medicine and appropriate speciality
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of acute problems
- Ability to function as independent operator in relevant procedures
- An understanding of the requirements of Clinical Governance and Audit Desirable
- Ability to function as independent operator in ultrasound
- Experience gained from working in and developing acute medical units
