Consultant Physician in Medical Microbiology and Virology / Infection

Examples of the main duties of the successful applicant are below:

• + Reporting of clinical samples both in virology and microbiology + Liaising with the appropriate clinicians for priority samples such as positive blood cultures, primary positive blood-borne virus tests or samples that require immediate management input from a specialist. + Bedside reviews of complex patients + Bench rounds. + Involvement with MDT's as directed by the departments. + Quality assurance. + Guideline development and reviews. + Supporting IPC with routine interpretation work. + Involvement with outbreak and root cause analysis. + ITU/HDU ward rounds. + Training of the Infection trainees. + Infection education to a variety of our colleagues in and out of the healthcare setting. + Attendance of the annual Microbiology/Virology review. + Involvement with the UKAS process + Involvement with quality improvement projects/audit/research. + Keeping up to date with mandatory training, job planning and appraisal. + Service development.
