Consultant in Plastic Surgery and Burns with specialist interest in microvascular breast reconstruction and skin cancer management
A full-time post as Consultant in Plastic Surgery is available at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital with clinical commitments at High Wycombe General Hospital, Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Amersham Hospital and potentially at the other peripheral hospitals our department serves.
This is a replacement post in a busy general plastic surgery and burns department that has a broad referral base. The job is based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and there is necessity to support a well-established busy breast reconstruction service, develop it further and deliver care that meets the clinical needs. This post has a particular focus on microvascular breast reconstruction and Skin Cancer management. The acute aspect of this post has an emphasis on supporting our burns and acute plastic surgery service. On-call commitments will include 1 week in 9.5 consultant-led acute cover, but this may be adjusted depending on service needs.
The successful applicant will join the current team of 10 consultants in this regional centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns.
Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register, or within 6 months of achieving CCT at the time of interview.
Planned AAC Interview Date is Monday 3 February 2025, This is a replacement post with a commitment to support and further develop the breast reconstruction service. The successful candidate will also provide, along with the other consultants in the unit, a general plastic surgery service, including the treatment of common elective conditions and skin cancer management, with the potential to develop other areas of elective interest depending on the service needs. The acute on-call aspect of the post will include the management of hand and soft tissue trauma and burns (unit-level for adults and children). In terms of burns, all consultants who work at the regional burn's unit are expected to deliver acute burns care at FRCS level. Anyone with more specialist burns training or experience in burns would have the opportunity to be part of the second-on specialist cover for burns., · Plastic surgery and burns service responsibilities including on call (currently 1 week in 9.5, but subject to change)
· Outpatient clinics at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Wycombe General Hospital, Amersham Hospital and possibly other peripheral hospitals.
· Operating (acute and elective)
· Care of inpatients and outpatients
· Clinical research in breast reconstruction and other administration as required by agreement.
· Teaching and training of junior staff and undergraduates (including educational and clinical supervisor role)
· Participation in Clinical Governance
· Departmental role within the team
