Full Job Description

The Consultant Psychiatrist will play a crucial role in providing expert psychiatric care and leadership within our independent eating disorder day treatment unit. This position involves conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic care for individuals with eating disorders.,

  • Clinical Care:
  • Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments for patients referred to the unit.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Provide psychiatric treatment, including pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, and other relevant interventions.
  • Monitor and manage psychiatric comorbidities, ensuring integrated care with other medical and therapeutic interventions.
  • Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration:
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including medical directors, psychologists, dietitians, nurses, and therapists, to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate in regular case review meetings and contribute to the development and adjustment of treatment plans.
  • Foster a collaborative environment, promoting effective communication and teamwork.
  • Patient and Family Engagement:
  • Engage with patients and their families, providing clear and compassionate communication regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress.
  • Participate in family meetings and support groups, offering psychiatric expertise and support.
  • Advocate for patient-centred care, ensuring that patients' rights and dignity are respected.
  • Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement:
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations and standards, including those set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
  • Contribute to clinical governance processes, ensuring the delivery of high-quality and safe psychiatric care.
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and the development of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Education and Training:
  • Provide education and training to staff on psychiatric aspects of eating disorders.
  • Mentor junior medical staff and support their professional development.
  • Participate in educational sessions for patients and families on psychiatric aspects of eating disorders.
  • Research and Development:
  • Stay updated with the latest research and advancements in the field of eating disorders and psychiatry.
  • Promote and participate in research activities, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and treatment practices.
  • Integrate new research findings into clinical practice to enhance patient care.

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Specialist training and certification in psychiatry, with a focus on eating disorders preferred.
  • Extensive experience in the psychiatric treatment of eating disorders.
  • Strong clinical and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to patient-centred care and continuous quality improvement.
  • Desirable:
  • Additional qualifications or training in eating disorder treatment, psychotherapy, or related fields.
  • Experience in a similar role within a day treatment or inpatient setting.
  • Research experience with publications in relevant psychiatric or medical journals.

    The Lilac Tree Clinic is offering the right candidate an exciting opportunity to join our new Eating Disorders Day Treatment Clinic. The clinic is a newly formed service that will be providing evidenced based day treatment interventions for adults with eating disorders through a specialist multi-disciplinary team. Our aim is to bring together and develop a strong group of clinicians who are compassionate, able, and motivated to form a highly effective team, dedicated to improving the lives of those with eating disorders.

    This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
