Full Job Description

The post holder will be based at Wonford House, Exeter where the Trusts HQ is located. This post is as a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist for patients age 18-65 years old caring for the population in the Exeter area. Within the Exeter Core Outer CMHT, there is another team caring for a different part of the same catchment area, led by another Consultant Psychiatrist who provides similar services. Patient safety and Quality Improvement are key aspects of the role and training will be provided if required., The successful applicant will offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients being managed by the Exeter Core Outer CMHT, as well as other expert clinical services in support of patients and their families/carers as necessary. They will also provide leadership to the wider CMHT and participate in ensuring the care flow of patients through the Trust is efficient and patient centred. The participation in liaising with other national and local services, including the local voluntary sector, is necessary. Trust leadership opportunities come up regularly to provide clinical or management input; with prior experience, would be helpful. You will take part in on-call rota (1;19) with registrars at times. Consultants from the other 3 consultants within the Exeter CMHT set-up, are expected to provide cross-cover for study/annual leave. This could, exceptionally, be from the wider local geographic area, too. This post is suitable as a first time NHS Consultant, or an existing or post-retirement Consultant with a broad level of general adult psychiatric expertise.   • Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview.
  • Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983., MRCPsych.
  • Other professional qualification
  • (e.g. CBT, PSI, CAT).
  • CCT General Psychiatry., Prior experience working in a Community Mental Health Team.
  • Experience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings, especially the community.
  • Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance., Evidence of development of special interest in Community based Psychiatry.
  • Proven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care., Evidence of additional teaching skills.
  • Experience as a lecturer or supervisor.
  • Experience in Clinical Supervision.
