Full Job Description

This post is to work primarily with adults with learning disabilities and to support seamless transition between Child and Adult services across the Flintshire area. The post holder will be expected to comply with the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010. The post may at times attract a junior doctor, depending on availability in the training rota. Main duties of the job The post holder will receive referrals form a variety of sources and provide diagnostic assessment, treatment and support services to adults living in Flintshire with a range of learning disability associated with mental disorder, challenging behaviour, autism spectrum disorders, dementia, offending behaviour and other multiple disabilities. The post holder will develop, maintain and deliver the necessary evidence based interventions in a range of community settings to enable adults with learning disability to lead fulfilling lives. The post holder will contribute to risk assessment and management The post holder will be part of, and provide clinical leadership to the Community Learning Disability Team, working in community and outpatient settings. The post holder will forge good links and relationships with professionals and teams within BCUHB including primary care as well as external allied agencies such as social services, police, voluntary and private sector. The post holder will provide Consultant and Responsible Medical Officer services to patients admitted to the Heddfan and Ablett acute psychiatric units from the Flintshire area. The post holder will work within the legislative arrangements of the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010., To manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical director and in accordance with the Health Boards personnel policies and procedures. This may include assessing competences under the Modernising Medical Careers framework. To ensure that junior medical staff, working with the post holder operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant. To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients. To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively and submit this promptly to the necessary department.

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Welsh AC Approval
  • Desirable
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • Eligibility Essential
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on GMC Specialist Register.
  • Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
  • Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
  • Desirable
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
  • Clinical Skills Essential
  • Evidence of training in the core and specialist competencies for Learning Disability psychiatry.
  • Desirable
  • Experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience of community psychiatric practice
  • Teaching and Training Essential
  • Evidence of having delivered postgraduate teaching.
  • Evidence of having delivered multidisciplinary teaching.
  • Desirable
  • Experience of teaching medical students.
  • Research/ Audit Essential
  • Proven capability to initiate and undertake original work.
  • Evidence of having undertaken a relevant audit project
  • Desirable
  • Evidence of research in Learning Disability care.
  • Motivation Essential
  • Evidence of commitment and enthusiasm to provide an Adult Learning Disability Psychiatry Service, Demonstrate leadership skills
