Flexible working arrangements may be considered and discussions with the recruiting manager regarding this are encouraged., Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit a Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist on a permanent contract to be responsible for treating children and adolescents up to the age of 18 at the Parkview clinic. This service is part of a larger inpatient service, which also includes 2 General Adolescent Units and a Specialist Eating Disorder Unit. Parkview achieved an overall rating of 'GOOD' following their latest CQC inspection and each domain was also rated 'GOOD'.
The post holder will provide senior specialist psychiatric input and medical leadership within an established multidisciplinary inpatient team and have a central role in delivering psychiatric assessment and treatment for inpatients and their families, as well as contributing to providing psychiatric & medical risk management. The consultant psychiatrist will support the inpatient team, medical lead and other professional leads with quality improvement & clinical governance activities. The post holder will also have a close working relationship with other consultant psychiatrists and medical colleagues based at the Parkview clinic. They will offer specialist consultation and peer supervision to medical and non-medical colleagues within the clinical team including the supervision of junior doctors. On a more strategic level, they will relate to the leadership and management structures of the Tier 4 and Mental Health Services., The clinical duties of the post holder will be to support the Tier 4 (T4) redesign and changing demands across the T4 services. The successful candidate together with the other T4 Consultants will provide a tertiary referral service for the assessment and treatment of adolescents suffering from psychiatric disorders that may as part of their management need treatment on an inpatient unit. The post holder will provide medical leadership and inpatient treatment for adolescents on inpatient unit working closely alongside the Medical Lead. The post holder will also work closely with West Midlands CAMHS Provider Collaborative.
The successful candidate will be able to take a role together with the other Consultants in the planning and development of the T4 Inpatient Service provided by the Children's Hospital. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the development of safe policies and procedures alongside a staff group that is relatively new and to help to facilitate the development of a wide range of skills, knowledge and expertise to ensure the delivery of care on a multidisciplinary basis is of the highest standard.
The Mental Health Service has its own senior leadership team, which is responsible for the implementation of all aspects of Trust policy and Clinical Governance/Quality initiatives within mental health service. The leadership team at the Parkview clinic meets with the MHS SLT Team regularly to discuss strategic and trust wide operational matters., · The post holder will be required to hold overall clinical/medical responsibility and review patients at a frequency according to their clinical need and risks.
+ Providing direct psychiatric services through the comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and care plan and treatment formulation, guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness.
+ Providing psychiatric leadership to the multidisciplinary teams and clinical leadership in collaboration with the team leaders. The Consultant Psychiatrist's responsibilities include treatment planning and regular reviews through outpatient contact or a multidisciplinary care programme approach that comprehensively address patients' bio-psychosocial needs.
+ Serving as Psychiatric liaison with other agencies particularly with regard to continuity of patient care. This is particularly important in complex cases when liaison and collaborative working with other services/agencies is necessary.
+ Assuring the involvement of families and carers wherever possible with the patients consent in treatment planning.
+ The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act. The post holder will be required to be approved under Section 12 (2) and have Approved Clinician status of the Mental Health Act, to be able to undertake assessments and use the Mental Health Act as appropriate.
+ To participate in the Consultant on- call rota covering out of hours' responsibilities including weekends.
+ Special emphasis on working within appropriate governance frameworks will be necessary in the area of the mental health act (including community treatment orders), mental capacity, choice and control and the safety of patients, carers, staff and the general community.
+ The development of any other clinical interest could proceed on the basis of appropriate funding being available. The appointee will be expected to develop his or her clinical role within the framework of the Trust's strategy and within its financial constraints. Dedicated sessions may be available by agreement.
+ Flexibility to shape and respond to changing service requirements. To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
+ To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12 (2) approval, Approved Clinician status and abide by Professional Codes of Conduct.
+ To participate annually in a job plan review which will include consultation with a relevant Manager in order to ensure that the post is developed to take into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernization.
+ The post holder will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services and share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management.
+ To comply with the Trust's agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the Mental Health Services' senior management team in preparing plans for services.
+ To manage, appraise, support and supervise junior medical staff, SAS doctors and if applicable, Physician Associates etc. as agreed between Consultant colleagues and the Medical Director and in accordance with the Trust's personnel policies and procedures. This may include assessing competencies under the MMC framework.
+ To ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder operates within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant
+ To work with administrative staff to record accurately and comprehensively, clinical activity and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
+ To participate in service and business planning activity for the Business Unit and, as appropriate, for the whole Mental Health Service.
+ To participate in annual appraisal for consultants.
+ To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
