Full Job Description

This is an opportunity to join a forward-thinking radiology team in an outstanding area of the country. The posts have arisen as a consequence of staffing changes and departmental expansion.
Experience in general cross-sectional imaging and acute radiology are essential. We are seeking colleagues who will enhance and complement our established team of 29 diagnostic radiologists, offering a wide range of specialist and general reporting and intervention. Interests in uroradiology and gastrointestinal imaging would be of particular value in this current recruitment round.
GHNHSFT is a tertiary referral centre for urology, with both pelvic and renal robotic surgery offered. We also cover complex urology in a network with Hereford hospital. This is supported with all imaging modalities and an active interventional service including tumour ablation.
The trust has a very active colorectal and upper GI surgical service including oesophagogastric resection. The surgical take is one of the busiest in the country making for a range of interesting imaging challenges There are also close links with QEH Birmingham for liver services and the trust offers a range of liver imaging and interventions locally in a hub and spoke model.
We would also seriously consider other subspecialty interests in line with the Trust's needs., + The appointee will be expected to share responsibility for the delivery of high quality care to the patients presenting to the Department.
+ To examine and treat patients within the Department.
+ To support the clinical decision making of junior medical and nursing staff and to support radiographic staff.
+ To be on an emergency list for exceptionally rare out of hours IT emergencies when the N3 connection to outsource reports is unavailable.
+ To participate in extended on-site radiology working weekday evenings until 20:00 and at weekends 08:30 to 17:30 as required
+ To actively participate in an MDT of the post holder's subspecialty interest, + Support the delivery of high quality radiology services within the trust
+ Support and participate in clinical governance
+ Participate in annual appraisal processes and job planning reviews
+ Work flexibly within a multidisciplinary team
+ Provide compassionate leadership both within the department and the wider trust
+ To participate in clinical audit and quality improvement projects
+ To support training of undergraduate and post graduate training for junior/resident doctors, as well as AHPs and nursing colleagues particularly in the context of developing skill mix
There is a team approach to the cross-site radiology working and is a condition of the appointment that the post holders will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations although travel will be remunerated if necessary.

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust (GHNHSFT) was formed in April 2002 and became a second wave Foundation Trust in July 2004. We are a large organisation providing acute services from Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in Gloucester and Cheltenham General Hospital. In collaboration with the other NHS Trust in Gloucestershire (who provide physical health, mental health and learning disability services), we provide Oncology services across Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and parts of Powys and Worcestershire
Our workforce is almost 8,000 strong. Our caring and dedicated staff are recognised as providing outstanding patient-centred, high quality emergency, elective and specialist care across a range of clinical areas.
The department of radiology is based predominantly on 2 sites - Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital.
Currently there are 34 Consultant radiologists. We work extended days Monday to Friday until 8pm and work on site at weekends 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.
The departments are busy with general and specialty imaging and in 2023/24 completed over 115,000 CT exams, 34,000 MRI exams, 70,000 NOUS exams, 31,000 Obstetric US, 5,700 Nuclear Medicine exams, 14,000 Angio/flouro exams and 220,000 radiographs.
Staffing includes:
29 Diagnostic Radiologists plus 5 Interventional Radiologists
135 WTE Radiographers -including 12.8 community, 20 Sonographers
19.5 WTE Nurses
50.5 WTE A&C staff - plus 2.8 community
