Full Job Description

The post is a full-time position at MFT and will be based at Wythenshawe Hospital. Applicants should have substantial experience in pre- and post-operative management of lung transplant patients. The post also involves the management of heart transplant and artificial heart patients, and we are developing ways of joint working with the other Respiratory units including the Interstitial lung disease Department and Cystic Fibrosis team at MFT.
The substantive post particular focus in the provision of a lung transplant service, working alongside existing colleagues involved in the delivery of this sub-specialty. You will join our team of 3 Respiratory/Transplant consultants and the extensive multidisciplinary teams to provide and enhance our Transplant service. The post is advertised and 10 PA contract with 3 PA shared with ILD Service. Ongoing care of heart and lung recipients will be shared with respiratory consultant, cardiology, and surgical colleagues. The post holder will have a share of the transplant medicine on-call roster and will provide continued care of patients admitted under their care. The post holder will involve in assessing patient for lung Transplant., The post holder will have responsibility for delivering a lung transplant service alongside existing colleagues. This will involve responsibility for one pre-transplant clinic, one post-transplant clinic Bronchoscopy and 2-4 ward rounds per week. The post holder will be actively involved in the organisation and delivery of the transplant MDTs (2 per week) and have responsibility for one bronchoscopy list week designated for transplant patients. As part of this post along with other colleagues the post holder will provide support and guidance for the transplant specialist nurses, research nurses and clinical/research fellows.
The post-holder will be responsible, with consultant colleagues, for a 16-bed transplant ward and variable numbers of patients on CTCCU (heart and lung transplant and artificial heart patients).
The appointee will take an active role in medical education and will be expected to take on the role of educational supervisor for trainees. The post holder will be encouraged to participate in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates, and to participate in audit, research, and service development., COVID-19 vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course patients from the virus when working in our healthcare settings.
