Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and ambitious surgeon to join the growing team to introduce robotic surgery (for both renal surgery and prostatectomy) to the trust with the Da Vinci Xi robot.
The post holder would become part of a team of Consultant Urological Surgeons that work very well together in a supportive environment. All Consultants contribute to the general urological workload and 2ww service.
The Urology Investigation Unit in Bath is an established, integrated outpatient facility comprising 7 consulting rooms, a new dedicated flexible cystoscopy/prostate biopsy/minor-ops suite, urodynamics room and staff offices. There is a dedicated urology inpatient theatre in the main theatre block.
The successful candidate will be part of a busy department offering a comprehensive Urology service delivered by 8 Consultants, a Specialty Trainee, four Clinical Fellows and three F1/2s. Ward and emergency support is also provided by three designated WTE Urology Nurse Practitioners. The post-holder will share responsibilities for in-patient care with the current consultants and provide supervision to the middle grade doctors and trainees.
Candidates should be on or eligible for inclusion onto the GMC Specialist Register for urology, be within 6 months of their expected date of obtaining a CCT (or equivalent) at the time of the interview or be pursuing a future CESR application., Clinical Duties: The holder of this post will be a Consultant Urological Surgeon. All Consultants contribute to the general urological workload and 2WW service. They will take part in the 1 in 8 on-call rota based at the RUH.
In addition to providing core urology services, the successful applicants will have a sub-specialty interest in Uro-Oncology, and will assist in developing the robotic service. The RUH currently performs over 120 complex laparoscopic cancer procedures per year (predominantly nephrectomy and laparoscopic radical prostatectomy), but the majority of these operations will transition to a robotic platform early in 2023 following the purchase of a Da Vinci Xi dual console system. We are supported by an experienced Uro-Oncology CNS team who run independent clinics and oversee most of the cancer follow-up. Currently there are 4 RUH Oncologists with a sub-specialty interest in Urology; they participate in twice weekly joint clinics with a Urologist and Uro-Oncology CNS within the Urology Department to optimise decision making for cancer patients. A purpose built Cancer Centre with integrated MacMillan Wellbeing Hub will open in 2023 to deliver Oncology care in
a state of the art facility.
