Full Job Description

We are looking to recruit dynamic substantive Consultants to work in our established Urology departments at Bedford Hospital and Luton & Dunstable University Hospital, which are part of Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The appointments are full-time replacement posts. The roles are to provide a shared responsibility for the provision of care to our patients, while implementing innovative working practices in creating a high-performing multidisciplinary team.

We welcome colleagues with current sub-speciality interests and are very supportive of colleagues who are at an early stage in their consultant career and wish to develop a specialist interest.

Each year the team carry out thousands of urology surgical procedures for patients from Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and beyond. As well as using keyhole surgery we deploy the latest robotic techniques to ensure minimum trauma and maximum safety for our patients.

We provide a comprehensive range of healthcare from urological medicine to complex surgery, delivered by Urological specialist consultants. The urology team at the Luton site receives referrals for HOLEP surgery from surrounding areas of Bedfordshire, Nottingham, Derby, Lincoln and Lister. Bedford Hospital receives referrals for HOLEP Surgery from Milton Keynes. Both sites provide an established robotic programme including Nephrectomies and pyeloplasty.

· Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of allurological patients

· To share with colleagues in the urology department the management of urological requiring admission.

· The appointee will have on call commitments

· Teaching and training of intermediate grade and junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students.

· To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.

· To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD).

· Undertake regular elective clinics and elective theatre lists. Clinical sessions will be scheduled between the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital site and the Bedford Hospital site, as we work together to further develop the joint working strategy of the departments across the merged organisation.

Our Trust provides hospital services to a growing population of around 700,000 people living across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas across two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Travel between hospital sites may be required.

We have state-of-the art facilities placing us at the heart of cutting edge health care. The Trust continues to be committed to delivering the best patient care using the best clinical knowledge and technology available.

Please note that vacancies may close prior to the advertised closing date when sufficient number of applications have been received. Please ensure that you make your application as soon as possible.

These are well-established posts which are part of a dynamic and enthusiastic team of 13 Urology Consultants (across both sites) who are delivering safe and effective care for urology patients from Bedfordshire and Luton.

The Trust is part of the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Health and Care Partnership (Integrated Care System) and within this the Bedfordshire Care Alliance. As a result of this, the successful candidate may be required to adapt their job plan in the future to work across more than one site within the area; this may also include delivering aspects of care in community settings which supports the Trust's vertical integration strategy.
