Full Job Description

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our existing team of 11 Consultants and 1 SAS doctor here at the Freeman Hospital, providing Vascular Surgery services to a population of approximately 1.2 million people across the Newcastle and Gateshead region and spoke services across Northumbria.

You will provide an expert opinion on, and investigate and manage, those patients presenting to the Department of Vascular Surgery in Newcastle. You will be contributing to the management, development and delivery of the vascular service and will be responsible for patient care within this department.

Management of vascular patients will involve open, endovascular and modern endovenous techniques, involving close MDT team working to ensure the best outcomes possible for the people of the North East of England referred for a vascular opinion.

You will be expected to lead and develop your sub-specialty interest to further enhance the delivery of the vascular service and it is favourable if the successful candidate has a track record of service innovation., Primarily you will be contributing to the management, delivery and development of the Vascular service in Newcastle Hospitals and surrounding trusts. You will be responsible for patient care within this department. As a nationally recognised centre of vascular excellence in the UK, we would expect the successful candidate to lead and develop a subspecialty area, to continue to enhance the national profile of Newcastle Hospitals. We anticipate that successful candidates will have the necessary skills to drive forward our hybrid theatre endovascular capability and the delivery of first-class vascular care. Successful candidates will be given the opportunity to take on leading roles in education and/or clinical governance. We expect the successful candidate to be an innovator, with exceptional leadership skills, a track record of successful collaboration and team working, together with a proven ability to deliver service innovation and quality improvement.

You will participate in a 1:9 weekend & 1:11 week-based Consultant-of-the-Week and Surgeon-of-the Week rota, enabling frontline senior decision making and supporting patient flow.
