Full Job Description

As our new Content Engineer, you will be responsible for the maintenance and improvement of content data validation and transformation capabilities for specific content sets, including relevant technical tooling and scripts, to ensure that content data meets the appropriate quality standards, product deliverables, and other business or functional requirements across the Press. You will:

  • Ensure appropriate technical and business-facing instructions are in place to support effective content data authoring and capture.
  • Ensure that content materials and approaches support the development of new and existing outputs, including new digital products.
  • Act as a point of escalation from business teams to resolve technical digital content capability related challenges and issues where these arise.
  • Participate in content data governance and instructions across a broad range of OUP products.
  • How you will do this:
  • Provide expertise to inform governance
  • Provide technical input and expertise
  • Create and manage clear digital content requirements
  • Analyse digital content systems and processes
  • Write transformation scripts
  • Ensure the creation, completeness and accuracy of relevant documentation
  • Identify root cause of errors in digital content
  • Triage and resolve escalated issues
  • Assess, train, and implement semantic metadata generation solutions
  • Assess and update taxonomy reference data

    Experience of XML formats and related technologies (such as XSLT, XPath, Unicode, XSpec, Schematron, RDF, DITA)
  • Able to accurately evaluate functional and presentational content data requirements
  • Able to effectively assess and resolve content data errors, identifying and addressing root causes
  • Quick-to-learn, tech-savvy, and possess exceptional problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of content structure and mechanisms to write digital content transformation scripts and text capture instructions.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, communication and time-management abilities.
  • Experience working with digital content across academic and/or educational publishing.
  • Desirable:
  • Experience of programming languages (e.g. JavaScript, Python, PHP, SPARQL)
  • Understanding of the software lifecycle (e.g. Agile and DevOps methodologies) and associated tools
  • Knowledge of content management systems and methodologies
  • Knowledge/experience of automated semantic classification and reference data solutions including knowledge engineering tools and processes
