Full Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Engineering Policy, you'll play an important role in ensuring effective contractor management of our operations contractors (with the exception of capital contracts which are owned by Major Projects). You'll lead on contractor performance tracking, analysis of the root causes of performance, and preparation of material for contractor performance management discussions.

You'll also work closely with the Field Operations Heads of Operations to inform his / her work with an understanding of "what it is really like on the ground".

The role can be based at any of our depots within our licence areas of the West Midlands, Wales, South West or East Midlands.

As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office and home working. This is a full-time role, but flexibility in working pattern may be considered. Occasional Travel may be needed to other locations., Aggregating front line insight on contractor performance from Field Operations and returned inspections from the contractor
Analysing contractor performance, identifying anomalies / value leakage, determining the root causes, and developing actions to address
Drawing performance trends / insights from discussions with the teams
Preparing material for contractor performance discussions including performance analysis and win-win ideas for the Head of Engineering Policy to hold these meetings
Supporting the Head of Commercial in contractor performance discussions
Where delegated to by the Head of Engineering Policy, personally leading contractor performance management meetings with small-medium sized contractors
Supporting the Head of Engineering and the Head of Commercial in setting expectations for effective operational contractor management for Field Operations, tracking compliance, and conducting analysis to identify learnings and areas of improvement

The Ideal CandidateTo be successful you will have proven experience of commercial/contract management and/or procurement together with knowledge of DNO assets and work, or the capabilities to build this knowledge quickly. You'll be highly analytical and detail focused, but also able to identify insights that drive the greatest value. You'll be highly organised and strong at planning and thinking ahead.

Showcasing your excellent financial and profit and loss skills, you'll be able identify the opportunities for driving value. You'll be a good negotiator who has the presence to build strong relationships with our contractors: being robust where needed, but also able to identify win-wins. You'll also have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build connections to influence leaders across the Commercial Team and Field Operations.

  • Please note you may initially be taken on at a lower salary until all relevant training is complete.
