Contract Manager

Location: Billericay

Salary: £60,000 - £65,000

Our client, a prominent construction company based in Billericay, is seeking an experienced and motivated Contract Manager to join their team. This role requires comprehensive knowledge of UK construction procedures and regulations. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in managing construction projects from inception to completion and must hold a valid CSCS card. This is a full-time role that will require time both in the office and on-site.

Key Responsibilities:

- Leadership:

  • Lead, manage, and oversee all aspects of project delivery, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

  • Direct a team of Site Managers and Sub-Contractors, optimizing resources for efficient project delivery.

  • Develop and communicate clear strategies to the team, setting and monitoring objectives to ensure project goals are met.

  • Provide strong leadership, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.


  • - Client Management:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Develop a deep understanding of Employer s Requirements (ER s) to ensure all work progresses in line with specifications.


  • - Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental (HSEQ) Management:
  • Lead on-site Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental practices, ensuring compliance with company procedures and current legislation.

  • Assist in the preparation of risk assessments and method statements, and review subcontractor RAMS to ensure safety standards are met.


  • - Commercial Management:
  • Identify and communicate potential risks and opportunities in advance to ensure effective mitigation or implementation.

  • Coordinate with the project Buyer to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of materials and plant.

  • Work closely with the Senior Project Manager and Quantity Surveyor to monitor project costs, assist in budget preparation, and ensure financial performance aligns with projections.

  • Oversee and report on performance against procurement and design programs, ensuring project timelines are met.


  • - Accountability:
  • Ensure client satisfaction by effectively managing relationships and delivering on contractual obligations.

  • Identify opportunities for business growth and contribute to the development of new ideas and solutions within the Construction division.

  • Take a proactive role in seeking new business opportunities and promoting the company s activities.


  • Person Specification:

    - Experience and Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated progression through management levels in previous roles.

  • Strong technical knowledge of construction procedures and UK regulations.

  • Extensive experience in end-to-end construction project delivery, from inception to completion.

  • Proven ability to manage time, costs, and project resources effectively.

  • Track record of achieving high standards in health, safety, environmental controls, and quality.

  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams, including consultants and stakeholders.

  • Essential: Valid CSCS Card

  • Desirable: SMSTS certification, MCIOB or working towards MCIOB.


  • - Skills and Attributes:
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to anticipate and resolve issues efficiently.

  • High standards of personal and site presentation, reflecting the company s values of Safety, Quality, Integrity, Service, and Value.

  • Competence in written communication, including proficiency in Word and Excel.

  • Knowledge of project programming and the ability to travel to different locations as required.
