Full Job Description

You will be joining the business to be part of one of the most complex infrastructure programmes in the country at a pivotal moment in its evolution. The UK government has committed substantial investment into improving our infrastructure, so we are building a talented team to make the most of this opportunity. It is a new approach for AWE and we need someone who can support a new programme in its set up then evolution into a full, long-term project. No two days are ever the same, you will engage with a wide range of interesting colleagues and projects across the organisation. As a Cost Controller, you will be working in Project Controls with responsibility for all aspects of Cost within one of the Programme Controls Teams. You will be responsible for the establishment, development, maintenance of timely, accurate cost data, and reports, including forecasts, performance analysis, earned value, cash flows, and monthly reports on the Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP). All of this will support the project in minimising the Estimate At Completion (EAC) for the Programme in accordance with best value. A typical day for a Cost Controller could look like this:

  • Management of in month costs, full year and EAC for the programme
  • Working collaboratively with your planning and risk peers to ensure one source of the truth across the programme.
  • Maintenance all cost data for the Programme within the financial control system.
  • Tailoring cost data and support based on level of stakeholder.
  • Providing cost impact assessments on changes and risks.
  • Comparison and analysis of trends within the Programme and identification of risk and opportunities to budget
  • Collaborative working with Finance Business Partners and DNO
  • Adherence to governance and Cost standards and procedures

    Previous experience in a programme delivery environment within a Cost Control role.
  • Adept with tech such as Cost tools, Excel and IT
  • Building rapport and creating great relationships
  • Strong motivational and influencing skills.
  • Have or be willing to obtain a membership with a professional institute.

    Salary: Starting at £38,140 this is very much open to upwards negotiation if you have the skills and experience that we need., 9-day working fortnight - meaning you get every other Friday off work.
