Full Job Description
We are recruiting Cost Planners to work as part of our Directly Managed Capital (DMC) function. This is to facilitate the delivery of Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) Maintenance Projects for water treatment sites, on behalf of the Internal Operations clients, using predominantly internal resources and delivery methods. This work is envisaged to encompass both Planned Maintenance programmes and projects, and Reactive Maintenance works.
What you'll be doing as a Cost Planner:
Monitor/review capital spend projects by Governance rules:
- Review capital spend to confirm coded correctly & in line with agreed budgets.
- As required, review Work Orders/POs/Goods receipt notes to confirm project status.
- Confirm key project dates recorded accurately in SAP for Commissioning, Benefit date & Take dates, Project closure etc.
- Manage capital projects to ensure no 'Red flags' within the Corporate dashboard/KPIs.
- Ensure timely resolution of project issues in SAP.
Actuals - Update and monitor capital project costs
- Liaise/Partner with the business (Maintenance projects team & Opex Finance team) to ensure current activity is accurately captured against capital projects.
- Review project spend & post Project accrual - based on the latest estimate ' VoWD'
- Ensure SAP inputs are recorded accurately.
- report monthly variances.
- Support the DMC team lead to help prepare pack summaries for the Waste/Water using traffic light reports to flag key variances.
Forecasts/Budgets - Agree/monitor/review planned costs.
- Liaise/Partner with the business to ensure an accurate & up-to-date view of projects captured against capital spend.
- Ensure that SAP inputs are recorded accurately.
- Clearly report latest forecasts & budget, identifying key movements/variances & associated risks/opportunities.
Continuous improvement
- Whilst operating by capital spend governance rules, review existing processes and where appropriate consider & promote improvements.
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining DMC policy and procedure documents.

Minimum Experience required for the role holder to perform fully and effectively in the job: Finance Reporting or Quantity Surveying experience is desirable, and previous data input experience into SAP or similar programme software is also an advantage.
- Preference for Finance or QS qualification, but not mandatory.
- IT skills: Highly proficient in the use of SAP-R3, SAP-BI (query tool), Excel manipulation and reporting.

Competitive salary between £31,600 - £42,000 per annum.
- 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with the length of service. (Plus bank holidays).
