Full Job Description

We are looking for a Cover Supervisor to start in November 2024, to be responsible for the supervision of classes and to oversee the completion of work by students in the absence of the nominated teacher. The role is based on working 37 hours per week, term time plus 1 week (39 working weeks).

Good interpersonal skills are required together with the ability to earn and maintain the respect of students and to ensure the appropriate codes of classroom behaviour are observed. Applicants for this post must be enthusiastic and possess a determined character, together with a positive approach to working with young people and the ability to set clear guidelines for them. Flexibility is key as the daily role is a reactive one requiring you to move to where need is greatest.

Previous experience of working with or interacting with children or young people is required for this role as well as good communication skills, an ability to work with minimum of supervision and to manage students in a classroom setting. Confidence using a laptop as well as good organisational skills are important for this role. This post is open to any applicant with suitable skills and experience regardless of qualifications although the position may be particularly attractive to graduates thinking of a career in teaching in the longer term.

George Salter Academy is a friendly, happy and vibrant 11-18 academy, serving a multi-cultural community. Our aim is for all students to develop in knowledge, confidence and ability in a caring and inclusive learning environment. We work hard to recognise the individual needs of pupils so that they can reach their potential and succeed to the highest of their ability, that they become engaged in an interesting and varied learning curriculum, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities of our modern and ever changing society.

Our new colleague will also benefit from being part of Ormiston Academies Trust, a MAT of 43 primary and secondary academies. The Trust's vision is for all young people to have access to the highest academic, social and practical skills required to achieve their full potential. OAT support all staff so that they can enhance and develop their professional skills whatever their role within the trust.
