Full Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Craftsperson to join our National Grid Services (NGS) team. In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting the team by proactively contributing to broader initiatives and workloads that ensure our business objectives are met. This includes assisting NGS Technicians in preparing materials and equipment for transportation to job sites and supporting a range of specialist techniques to deliver safe and efficient outcomes for both internal and external customers. You will be responsible for maintaining tools, equipment, and vehicles to ensure they are safe, properly tested, calibrated, and compliant with legislative requirements. Additionally, you will be expected to accurately record time worked, additional tasks performed, materials used, and hire charges, ensuring these are returned for recharge purposes. As part of your role, you will also participate in the NGS Standby Rota, providing pipeline emergency repair services (CEME). Delivering maintenance tasks on schedule and to the highest standards is an essential part of this role, as is ensuring that all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with National Grid procedures. What You'll Do

To excel in this position, you must have relevant experience in operational maintenance or repair work within a mechanical engineering background. Practical experience with pressure systems above 7Bar would be highly advantageous. A solid understanding of how Transmission or Distribution Networks operate, as well as pipeline and pressure system safety, is essential. Ideally, you will also have hands-on experience in one or more disciplines, such as under-pressure drilling, flow stopping, in-line service inspection, pipe fitting, pressure system inspections, or damage assessments. You should be confident in using computerised systems for accessing critical information and inputting key data, such as working hours. A detailed understanding of applicable regulations and standards, along with a working knowledge of company procedures, is crucial for this role. The position requires you to work onsite 5 days a week and involves frequent travel to various sites across the operational area, with regular overnight stays required. A full and valid UK driving license is essential for this role.
