Full Job Description

The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (Cymru) is Wales' exciting and innovative aeromedical/ car-based Pre-Hospital and transfer service.

Our Consultant/ Practitioner teams put the patient at the centre of our life saving operations. We also deliver a road-based Adult Critical Care Transfer Service (ACCTS) with dedicated critical care transfer staff, vehicles, and equipment from bases in Cardiff & Bangor. The Wales Air Ambulance Charity provide H145 helicopters as well as Volvo & Audi Response cars which provide operational/ weather resilience.

We have a vacancy within our North Wales team based at Caernarfon Airport.

Applicants are advised that the EMRTS service has recently gone through a strategic review, and a decision has been made to reposition teams from both Caernarfon and Welshpool to a consolidated base at a location (likely central North Wales) in or around 2026.

Due to our clinical response model, there will be a requirement to work at any of our bases for training, education, and service delivery requirements, which may include working at the EMRTS Critical Care Hub/Trauma Desk., Critical Care Practitioners (CCP`s) are registered practitioners who have undertaken additional post registration clinical development and higher education, enabling them to assess and manage critically ill or injured patients who have high acuity needs during the pre-hospital or transfer/retrieval phase.

CCP`s work as part of a team, or as an autonomous practitioner, initiating appropriate care & effective treatment to patients who have complex needs, applying advanced clinical skills and decision making within an appropriate level of competency and scope of practice.

This role requires CCP`s to be signed off at gateways within the CCP developmental pathway, which are achieved by completing specific courses, undertaking work-based assessments, level 7 education and completion of a clinical portfolio.

The postholder will be required to be ambitious, motivated and be able to remain calm under pressure., To qualify for this role, you must be HCPC / NMC registered, meet all of the essential criteria within the personal specification, and be able to provide demonstrable relevant experience in the prehospital emergency care setting.

Selection for this rewarding role is demanding, & consists of a fitness test, several clinical scenario assessments, a written examination, and an interview including Crew Resource Management elements.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
