We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Curriculum Lead to join the Learning and Skills team at HMP Bronzefield. This role is central to driving forward the quality of education provision within the prison, ensuring that prisoners have access to opportunities that equip them with essential skills for a successful reintegration into the community. The Curriculum Lead plays a pivotal role in advancing the Learning & Skills Department by improving the quality of educational provision, while ensuring that challenging Service Delivery Targets are met each year. Reporting to the Education Manager, this role is critical at HMP Bronzefield, with a strong focus on providing prisoners with educational opportunities that help them develop skills and competencies to support their successful reintegration into society and reduce the risk of re-offending. The Curriculum Lead must be an expert practitioner in the classroom, capable of leading, training, and guiding curriculum tutors and peer workers towards outstanding performance. HMP & YOI Bronzefield is the largest women's prison in Europe which accommodates a diverse and complex population of women from restricted Status women who require the highest levels of security, women on remand (Who are often experiencing custody for the first time), as well as supporting women with chronic mental health conditions.   • Develop and review syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, assessments, and teaching and learning strategies within the department.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management, control, and operation of course provision within the department, ensuring effective deployment of staff and physical resources.
  • Actively monitor and follow up on learner attendance and progress by analysing and evaluating performance data, taking appropriate follow-up actions as needed.
  • Present progress data at monthly sub-group meetings and Quality Improvement Group meetings.
  • Ensure that Health & Safety policies and practices, including risk assessments, are aligned with the establishment's requirements and updated where necessary throughout the department.
  • Be accountable for the development and delivery of the department's curriculum.
  • Stay informed about and respond to national developments in subject areas, teaching practices, and methodologies, providing training to staff during CPD sessions.
  • Work alongside the Education Manager to identify staff development needs by conducting Performance Management Reviews and acting as a reviewer for staff within the department.
  • Make appropriate arrangements for classes during staff absences, ensuring sufficient cover within the department.
  • Teach up to 50% of the working week, delivering English and maths to Level 2, including embedded English and maths, and cover lessons as required.
  • Comply with all assessment recording and reporting systems to ensure that qualifications are completed and awarded in a timely manner.
  • Take on the role of IQA to ensure the standardisation of courses and uphold quality assurance within the department

  • Full teaching qualification, including QTLS.
  • Recognised Level 4 qualification or higher in basic/functional skills English or maths.
  • An interest in the rehabilitation and resettlement of offenders.
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all times, across various mediums, including spoken and written communication.
  • Supervisory experience in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of assessment processes and awarding bodies.
  • Strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility to undertake a variety of different tasks.
  • Desirable:
  • Experience of teaching or working with disadvantaged groups or in a young offender or prison environment.
  • IQA qualification or experience in the role of internal verifier.
